Mothers of the Holy Land is a registered not-for-profit humanitarian organisation dedicated to improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes in occupied Palestine.
Mothers of the Holy Land was established by Reem Najjar, an Australian midwife of Palestinian heritage. Reem is a deeply passionate midwife who wants to enhance birthing rights for mothers across Palestine, along with helping women and babies in need. After visting Palestine for a humanitarian aid mission in 2015, Reem experienced the huge and devastating impact the Israeli occupation is having on the way women access midwifery care. Due to Israeli checkpoints that separate cities and villages, women are facing endless challenges and complications trying to reach their health care providers. This often results in poor or life threatening outcomes for both mothers and babies that could have easily been prevented.
Reem will be making regular trips to Palestine where she will be working alongside midwives and other health professionals to ensure that the organisation’s needs are being met. Funds raised will go towards; mothers struggling to access health care, medical equipment needed to accommodate the community, disadvantaged midwifery and medical students, educational resources for health professionals and disadvantaged families and orphans in need of food, clothing and shelter.
